Men and Women T20 World Cup 2020 to Be Held in Australia
As
the 2018 Women's T20 World Cup wraps up in the West Indies, we are ready for
the next T20 World Cup 2020 which is going to be held in Australia. Formerly
known as ICC World T20, the next edition of the men's and women's t20 World
Cups is expected to be held in Australia for the first time and this will be
the seventh edition for both sexes.
The
Australian women recently won the ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies by
beating England in the final. This is their fourth title of all time, the most
men's and women's championships. The International Cricket Council recently
renamed the T20 to T20 World Cup to allow the sport to spread around the world
at various levels.
"Australia
is hosting major international sporting events and have passionate,
knowledgeable and diverse fans who love T20 cricket. Many people have already
referred to the World T20 as the T20 World Cup. For this name change to be
formalized by the ICC, it only reinforces the importance of T20 cricket for the
world game and the fact that the T20 World Cup is the flagship competition of
this format".
Thus,
the new ICC T20 World Cup tournament is set for a different period for men and
women. The Women's Under-20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from February
21 to March 8, 2020. The final is scheduled for Women's Day on March 8.
The
T20 men's World Cup 2020 is scheduled for October to November. This will be the
first time that the two events will face each other in the same year but in
different temporal regions. Eight Australian cities and 13 venues are ready to host
stand-alone women's and men's competitions.
