Pakistan Planning to Host Asia Cup 2020
The
Pakistan Cricket Commission (PCB) is about to propose the September dates to
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for next year's Asian Cup in the country. The
ACC will hold a meeting in Thailand next week to finalise the dates of 2020
Asian Cup and THE PRESIDENT of the 2020 Asian Cup, Ehsan Mani, will participate
in the meeting to propose the organisation of the Twenty20 tournament in
mid-September.
The main objective of hosting the Asian Cup in September 2020 is to give players a the first-class tournament in preparation for the October 2020 T20 World Cup in
Australia.
"The
President of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ehsan Mani, is due to travel to
Thailand in the coming days to attend the ACC meeting. Pakistan's interest in
the meeting is to get favourable dates for the Asian Cup already awarded to
Pakistan. The PCB wants to organise this event well before the T20 World Cup, and the best dates seem to be early or mid-September,"
However,
the venue of the tournament, Pakistan, remains a concern due to political
tensions between India and Pakistan. The last edition, held in 2018 in The United Arab Emirates, was originally scheduled to be held in India. But
political tensions in Pakistan and India have withdrawn the tournament from
India. India won the 2018 Asian Cup by beating Bangladesh in the final.
